Professional Background

Professor Henderson provides administrative leadership over admissions and the 3-year, part-time program for the Department of Social Work’s M.S.W. program. She has taught courses in Social Justice, Administration and Leadership, Practice Education and Social Policy in the M.S.W. program since 2016.

As a CRT/I (Critical Race Theory and Intersectionality) scholar and practitioner, she is committed to dismantling systemic structures that impede equitable opportunities for students of color in the social work profession and higher education.

With over 20 years of human service experience, Professor Henderson spent the first part of her career as a direct practitioner in urban jurisdictions across three states (CA, FL and MD). Her background in clinical social work, philanthropy and leadership development enabled her to thrive as a practitioner and consultant to public and private non-profit organizations, and 4-year institutions. She has developed and managed local and national system and service reform efforts; directed technical assistance teams; created successful strategies to advance racial equity, including recruitment, training and retention of talented BIPOC leaders in the social sector. Beyond employed positions, Prof. Henderson continues to hone her own leadership capacities through civic engagement, non-profit board service, leadership development programs, speaking engagements, and communities of practice within CSUDH and beyond.
